February Tech Tips:

Race Prep: Remove kick-start parts to reduce weight.  When removing the kick-start parts, don’t forget to remove the rewind spring stay, too.  Heat the case with a hot air gun and clamp vise grips to the steel stay - hit the grips with a plastic hammer.

Tuning Tip: Since details really count when tuning mini-motorcycles, gap your spark plug correctly during every plug change. This will ensure of receiving maximum horsepower from your motor! Unless the bike is running an aftermarket ignition, the correct gap is .020. If running a PVL aftermarket ignition, the correct gap is .028.  For any other ignitions, check with the manufacturer -- the gap matters!

Tire Tip: Tire pressure, when racing, can make the difference between capturing the checkered flag or retrieving your bike from the weeds! Check tire pressure before every race -- and remember that different weather conditions require different tire pressures. Start with the guidelines below and experiment to find a pressure that gives you the best feel and confidence:

  • Less than 85 Degrees: 20 to 22 pounds.
  • Around 85 Degrees: 22 to 23 pounds.
  • Over 90 Degrees: 24 to 26 pounds.

[These are the corrected tire pressures.  Due to typographical errors, incorrect pressures were listed.]
