March/April Tech Tips: Race Maintenance: Make sure to clean your exhaust by either filling it with “Easy Off” oven cleaner or having it dipped in a caustic tank at your local radiator shop. Stock pipes need this done most of all -- a minimum of once a season. If you do use “Easy Off”, rinse out with clean, running water for a minimum of twenty minutes. Tuning Tip: Add a Stage 2 DynoJet kit and aftermarket reeds to your stock or supersport bike. Chain Tip: Keep your chain adjusted with 1-1/8 to 1-1/2 slack. This will keep your rear shock responsible for the full travel of the rear suspension and leave the chain to do what it does best! Make sure your sprocket runs centered on the chain. Ignition Tip: Check to see if you have one “Black Box” and one “Ignition Control Unit”. If you have a control unit (the smaller of the two), remove it and give your bike a spin around a parking lot. It should run better. Stator Tip: If you still have your lighting coil, remove it! Remove the two screws from the larger of the three coils, ground the one that comes from the second largest coil. Clip the wires that are attached to the coil you removed. Tape it up and you’re done! You’ll have to pull the flywheel... |
